TOXIE RETURNS! The Toxic Avenger Reboot Oozes into Theaters August 2025

Peter Dinklage Leads the Legendary Revival of Tromaville’s Most Radioactive Hero

By MoreHorror Staff

Grab your mop and hold your nose—Toxie is back and ready to clean house in the bloodiest, most gloriously mutated way possible.

THE TOXIC AVENGER, the long-awaited reboot of the 1980s cult classic, hits theaters in August 2025, with a modern dose of slime-soaked vengeance and pitch-black comedy. This isn’t your dad’s Toxie (okay, maybe it is—but he's been working out, and the budget’s better).

Directed and written by Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore), this grotesquely hilarious update stars none other than Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) as the mop-wielding mutant himself. And if that doesn’t melt your face with joy, check out this cast: Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, and Taylour Paige all join in on the radioactive mayhem.

The Plot: From Janitor to Juggernaut

Meet Winston Gooze. He’s a mild-mannered janitor with a rough break and a heart of gold—until a catastrophic toxic accident turns him into the hideously heroic Toxic Avenger. Now, with mop in hand and sludge in his veins, Toxie’s ready to go full vengeance on the corrupt powers poisoning his town… and threatening his kid.

Think eco-horror, splatterpunk, and absurdist superhero parody all blended in a glowing barrel of nostalgic goo. This is justice… served radioactive.

Who’s Behind the Madness?

Legendary Entertainment produces, and Cineverse handles distribution—which means this thing has real muscle (and probably some bonus mutant limbs). With Blair at the helm and a dream team of weirdos and legends on deck, this reboot honors the spirit of Troma’s original madness while dragging it into the modern age like a barrel of sludge on wheels.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Tromaville’s favorite freak or about to lose your Toxie virginity, this one’s a must-see for any horror lover with a twisted sense of humor and a taste for the grotesque.

Coming to theaters August 2025.

Bring a poncho. And maybe a Geiger counter.
